Mission
The Humanities Department aims to nurture East Springians into critical thinkers with a deep understanding of the world, both past and present.
Goals
Through meaningful and authentic learning experiences both within and beyond the classroom, students will:
Develop an appreciation of the relevance of the Humanities in real-world contexts and a passion for exploring human-environment, historical and societal issues.
Become informed, responsible, and active citizens who contribute positively to Singapore and the global community.
The Humanities Department adopts an inquiry-based approach that encourages students to ask questions, investigate issues, and construct meaningful understanding of the world around them. Through Geographical Investigations, Historical Investigations, and Issues Investigations, students engage with authentic real-world challenges and develop critical thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills. Lessons incorporate discussion-based learning, collaborative inquiry, and self-directed learning experiences that encourage students to explore diverse perspectives, make informed judgments, and apply their learning beyond the classroom. Through these pedagogies, students become active learners who are equipped to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
